The energy and excitement of 8th Street in Downtown Boise is electric.   Add to that great food, fun and the newly opened BRU taproom and you have a winning combination for a night out.  Recently, we were walking downtown and just happened this amazing self-pour taproom.  Bright lights, big windows and an amazing line-up of taps line the main wall this one-of-a-kind adventure for the beer lover.

Story of BRU

BRU Owners, Debbie and Tod Kessler started out making smoothies.  As they watched the growth of breweries in the Treasure Valley, they knew that this is where they wanted to be.  Soon their vision of a self-pour taproom came to life.  The rustic, warm, down home feel is just part of what makes this the perfect place to hang out with friends.  Debbie and Tod didn’t want to be behind a bar but rather out creating an environment to meet and make new friends.

Welcome to BRU

As you walk in, you will be enthusiastically greeted by Debbie and Tod Kessler as they introduce you to their vision.  This adventure is perfect for the beer lover as you learn about and enjoy 30 selections on tap at any given time.  Your options include a of Stouts, Sours, IPAs, Ciders and so much more.  The best part, most of the 30 selections feature local breweries.

New to BRU

Debbie and Tod’s concept of self-pour is super easy and fun!  Grab a card, open a tab and then get tapping!  All you do is put your card in the slot of the beer you want to try and pour.  “Tap, Taste, Talk” rinse and repeat.  You can keep doing that all evening or find a favorite…it’s all up to you.  Bring your friends, play some games and just have fun.  When you finished, turn in your card, pay your bill and you are done.

How to BRU, Find Something New

If you don’t know what to try, all you have to do is ask.  Debbie, Tod and their team have the answers.  Try a few, try them all – it is up to you.  We recognized some of our local favorites like Mother Earth’s Cali Creamin’, Sin-Tax and Boo Koo along with selections from Payette Brewing, and Sawtooth Brewery.  Their selections are all determined by what they find that they like.  Selections can change but their commitment to featuring local will not.  You will find some additional options beyond Idaho but mostly you will enjoy the breweries popping up in and around the Treasure Valley.

BRU New Favorites

The ability to try new brews is all part of the fun.  In doing so, we found some new favorites.  Those of you who love sours, you will love Blackberry Sour from White Dog Brewing Company.  If you love a beer with a kick, then you will definitely want to try Fuse from Bear Island Brewing.  Jalapeno makes it flavorful with a bit of a kick!  Cider fans, you will need to try them all.  Our favorite:  Longdrop Cider Company’s Vanilla Honey.

BRU Grub

There is so much more to experience than just the beer here at BRU.  Chef Debbie makes an amazing 90 second pepperoni pizza from scratch.  Fresh ingredients, amazing flavors and a great selection of pizza options all in just 90 seconds.  Who could ask for anything more.  Not a pizza fan, check out their Menu for more amazing food options!
